It's been a "labour of love" to create the new sign for Leisure 2000 for almost two years since the early stages of design through the planning and consultation stage to manufacture and installation. The sign is the culmination of large investment by the owners to transform the amusement arcade into a modern family entertainment centre. A 15 metre internal neon "welcome" sign greets visitors and the new colour scheme creates a dynamic atmosphere. In the competitive market the sign needed to be a beacon as well as create the right impression to attract new customers.
During the consultation process the questionnaire completed by other traders and customers was almost unanimously in support of the scheme which is a dramatic improvement and sets a high standard for the future.
An exhibition was held for local residents to see plans and samples and discuss their concerns. By modifying the sign design, it satisfied concerns. After making representations to the planning meeting the project was approved as an improvement and likely to promote trade in the area.
The sign itself was a major challenge. Just a few facts for the technically inquisitive: It is 26.5 metres by 3.5 metres, it is not just about size. The sign has incorporated a number of features. As a centerpiece, there are Romanesque style columns with 24 LED down lighters framing the polished stainless steel beveled rim & return letters with electronically controlled chasing LED's. There are about 2200 LED's. The sign is topped out with electronic spinning feature with flashing lights. In all there are 312 metres of red, blue and yellow neon to complete the picture. As you can imagine, to ensure there is enough power for the 1100 metres of cable and 36 transformers and drivers, there is a 3 phase supply to the sign to make sure it came on first time every time!
